Dr. Nicholas E. Tarlov

MD

  • Dr. Nicholas E. Tarlov is a board-certified neurologist specializing in stroke, vascular

    neurology, and interventional neuroradiology.

    Dr. Tarlov earned his undergraduate degree in Biology, cum laude, from Harvard

    University and his medical degree from the University of Southern California’s Keck

    School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in

    Boston and his neurology residency at the University of Southern California, where he

    was elected by USC faculty to be Chief Resident and received the Golden Hammer

    Neurology Award for academic achievement in neurology.

    Dr Tarlov completed interventional neuroradiology fellowship at Boston University. He

    was also awarded a Phillippe Foundation Grant for an additional year of training in the

    treatment of arteriovenous malformations and complex aneurysms at L’Hôpital

    Lariboisière in Paris, France, a referral center for patients from all over the world, and

    where the first embolization ever in the history of interventional neuroradiology was

    performed.

    Dr. Tarlov’s clinical expertise spans acute stroke care, mechanical thrombectomy,

    stenting, and other minimally invasive neurointerventional procedures. He has held

    academic and clinical appointments at medical schools, including the University of

    Missouri, and the University of Central Florida. He is the former director of stroke and

    interventional neurology at the Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, California.

    An accomplished researcher, Dr. Tarlov has co-authored 21 peer-reviewed articles and

    abstracts and contributed to major clinical trials of stroke treatment, including the

    RESPECT ESUS and POINT studies. He is also a frequent lecturer and educator,

    presenting at national and international conferences on topics related to stroke,

    neurovascular intervention, and neurological emergencies.

     Dr. Tarlov holds medical licenses in California, Florida, North Dakota, Wisconsin, and

    Minnesota, and is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in

    neurology and vascular neurology.

     

    Dr. Tarlov is committed to advancing stroke care, mentoring the next generation of

    physicians, and improving outcomes for patients with complex neurovascular

    conditions. With more than 20 years of experience mentoring students from low-income

    areas of Los Angeles, he is currently helping to develop a mentoring program at

    Dominican University for first generation Americans pursuing careers in health care.

    Highly proficient in Spanish, and fluent in French, he is also passionate about

    expanding access to quality stroke care in underserved areas of the United States.
